yes_squared

I have always wanted to have a cute little instagram handle that doesnt really make sense to anyone but means something to me, but I have never been able to come up with one.

when my artistic journey turned abstract, squares were of utmost importance. squares are still near and dear to my heart even though I utilize them in my pieces less these days. squares speak to me in ways I cannot describe and there are few things more cathartic than drawing/painting my squares on an entire painting . I do not seek perfection in my squares, only a general cubed shape, which makes them whimsical and more versatile in my opinion. since squares have played a large part in my creative process over the past few years I decided my cutesy instagram handle should be related to squares. so two nights ago I sat on my couch trying different usernames until I found one that not only spoke to me but also had not been taken yet (the latter proved difficult). but, I stumbled into yes_squared for countless reasons. a painting becomes squared when I add squares yes, but since squaring involves more than one thing, one squared painting can also bleed into a painting that is square-less. everything is connected; there are always continuities between pieces of art, they just need to be found. so not every painting has squares, but all paintings can be/are squared to some other piece. squares of course are full of connections themselves, a square’s four points are all integrated.

I desire to create a body of work throughout my life that displays this concept of squaring, I do not want to create pieces that cannot be related to one another….. I do not think that is how the universe works.

the spirit of the square lives inside of me and its call for cohesion and integration serves as a directing force in my life. the world around us most certainly directs us in strange ways but if one becomes available to the connections the universe allows/creates for us, then one can become more fulfilled and in tune with their world.

as for the yes part, that is easy to explain- you gotta just say yes…. it is truly that simple.
